Welcome to 2009!!!
I quit the job and spent holiday season poor. Still looking for the next one- if 'looking' can be described as 'needing, but doing nothing about it!' Bad me, damn it!
Sewer line broke today and I ended up spending the day begging relatives to help. Price tag of $2400 and an Uncle that will help- that's the good part. Bad part? He doesn't want to give me a check until after the plumbers are done! His idea is that they'll do it, and then I'll drive to his place and then I'll pay the guys... I wish!
I hope!
Damn it.
First post in months and it's just more doom and gloom :(

Needed a job, bad.
Got a job.
Low pay and bad mileage.
Pay check every 2 weeks- worse.
Trainer that prefers to keep secret the job details and then yells over your 'mistakes'
Trainer that fills you in on all the Doom and Gloom of job, co-workers and her own sorted home life
Other employees are hostile
No one responds when you try to talk
Had to ASK for the first paycheck, and it wasn't signed when I got it!
Freezing at 60 degree AC on my back, guess which of the office ladies is in menopause?
Stories about the boss not paying his contractors- oh but he'd never do that to you!
Trainer talking about finding another job and I've only been here three days..
Underpaid, but it's money and I needed money *sigh*
Trainer FIRED today as I sat confused and a bit afraid at my desk, the boss gave her a box and refused to let her get her personal photos off the hard drive.
One hand- good. She sucked at training and I'm sick of smelling like her ashtray.
Other hand- feel sorry for her.
Reality.
The boss is stupid enough to think;
1) I'm sticking around
2) I was well trained and can handle the job solo
3) I have so much extra time that I will now help the other women in the office do their jobs as well as the one I was hired to do, underpaid to do and ill trained to do.
4) I know anything about real estate, finance and contracts
5) I like the office, him or the other women that work there
6) I like the job at all.
Reality:
Can't leave until I've got another job.

My first Torchwood fict.
SPOILERS WARNING: Set after Season 2 Finale, Exit Wounds.
Ianto worries about the Team's future and mourns their loses.
Reason- Watching the final images of the episode this is basically what I was thinking... what I would have been thinking if I was Ianto..

Never used to like fanfiction, I mean what was the point? It's not "real".. and NOW I'm reading fiction for old TV shows I used to love (as long as they made em gay that is ;)
Who knew I'd LOVE the A-Team again. And Sentinel? Well they were actually and rather obviously gay in that one already. Only the producers seemed not to notice! And I'm even enjoying Kirk and Spock fict!
Wow.
My eyes are open ^ ^

After the last couple of episodes it suddenly hit me- if the writers aren't gonna give me what I want then I beat other fans will!
Been reading Torchwood Jack x Ianto ficts at http://www.fanfiction.net
The good, the GREAT, the ugly and the disappointing.
I really need to think up a plot and try my hand at this!
Just about everyone is giving Ianto something special/extra. Empath, telepathic, time lord's son (I liked that one!) fairy child (oooh I hope she finishes that story!)... funny thing no one went for the CIA agent type which is what mt first impression of Ianto WAS on the show.. the straight laced, black suited government agent.
Maybe I can do something with that.
We'll see.
In the mean time Ianto x Owen ficts?! YEW! >,<
I was HAPPY when Ianto shot Owen! I don't want him kissing him!
Death to Owen! (re; drugged date rape 1st episode, combat!, and just about anytime he opens his mouth!)

I'd planned to caught up on Torchwood this weekend but was putting it off out of depression. I realized I was only watching for the yaoi componet and that the rest of the story is FAR from dazzling me (never really forgave them for the canibal and combat episodes, not to mention the near destruction of my fav character Ianto in cyberwoman >.<) But after they had Jack retouch with the Doctor in the lost years I was willing to give them a shot in season 2.. only to be depressed, as mentioned before. I'm only in it for the yaoi.
After watching eps 4-6 though I'm feeling MUCH better!
Nice to see Ryhs as an actual interesting guy that Gwen might still love instead of a middle aged bear-swilling sitcom dad type who Gwen was growing out of but refused to let go of. (I'm not a big Gwen fan here either- they were playing her as the female equivalant of him and then not only does she cheat on him, but when she confesses she then wipes his memory instead of dealing with his anger and their relationship- she really died in my eyes at that point.)
They even had the actor tone up and slim down for this big episode.
"Adam" was just fanastic- all for Ianto of coarse! Love my Ianto! I just WISH Jack did too.
I was mad at Henry in Tanya Huff's Blood series (the books) for loving Tony only as a subsitute for the woman he couldn't have, and here it Jack doing the same thing to Ianto, and I'm not sure Ianto realizes he is doing this. I think Ianto loves Jack more then either of them will admit and when the writers go the hetero way and put man and woman together they are going to CRUSH Ianto in the middle- along with all of us fangirls!! :(

Well I'm back. Hi all!
The computer fix may not be complete and was a complete nightmare- putting it as nicely as possible I would urge anyone in need of computer help to steer clear of CircuitCity. They didn't even keep records of the work they did in-house and had no concept of actually apoliging and figuring out their mistakes.
After complaining to the warrenty dept I was recommened to another branch of the same store since this location screwed me over.
Nice.
Now I'm pissed off again >.

An exert from an interview with Martian Child's leading man:
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienew s.php?id=38671
"CS: Did you have any thoughts on your character not being gay like he is in the book and would it have been more interesting to you if they kept that aspect of the book?
Cusack: I don't know because I didn't develop the project and I wasn't there. The only thing I saw was something that wasn't that way. There was always a relationship with the wife who passed away, and then there was the budding thing with Harlee, Amanda's character, so I never saw any version of it that way. It would have been a totally different film, and then it would all be about the politics of gay rights, which I just don't know if it would have been as interesting. Maybe, if I'd read a script and it was great, yeah, that would have been fun."
An exert from an interview with the screenwriters:
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Intervie w-Martian-Child-Screenwriters-6749.html
"How did this story come to your attention?
Jon: We immediately loved the story and thought it would be a beautiful movie.
Seth: It was magical.
Jon: We’re not science-fiction people, Which may have been one of the things that I thought actually helped in this movie.
Seth: It helped us appreciate the story. There definitely was a science-fiction element. The human side of that was so beautiful in the short story that it captivated us.
How did the character of Harlee come about, and why?
Jon: In the short story there was nothing about his personal life. I said I just think we want to know why this single man, he’s John Cusack, he’s attractive, he’s not too old—why isn’t he getting married or something? We actually entertained the notion, what if he was gay, but there were issues we would have to deal with that actually are not dealt with in the book, and the book doesn’t have to for whatever reason. But for the movie we would have to answer a lot of questions that would lead us another way. We didn’t want it to be about the acceptance of David, we wanted it to be about the acceptance of Dennis. So we wanted there to be another female presence. We started thinking about the kind of role that Jane Alexander played in Kramer vs. Kramer, which is a female source for Dustin Hoffman to have. We already had Liz, who was the practical, not to say negative, but could see all the problems that were coming down the pike. We wanted there to be someone on his other shoulder saying this could actually be really beautiful."
To be fair I can't say I'm any real fan of the original novel. I saw it in passing and didn't really spend time reading a family story of a single parent who just happens to be gay adopting a lonely orphan who believes he is a Martian and how they come to love and trust each other.
But hearing a book I know has been made into a MOVIE of coarse I have to look into it!
And 'of coarse' they made our loving gay parent a straight man!
Why?
Well in the words of the screenwriters and their leading man they didn't want to "complicate" their "beautiful, magical story" by keeping the main character a gay parent as he was written originally IN the beautiful, magical story they fell in love with in the first place.
Why?
Because of simple, ugly prejudice. Bigotry. They don't think the paying public will come to a movie about a nice, single gay man raising a problem child and becoming a family.
If you never MAKE the stories then no one can pay to watch them!

My laptop has had an overheating problem for a while, and maybe some others problems like the diskdrive. I tried to contact my warrenty people once- but all I had was a faded receipt and didn't even know if it was still covered! Never got an answer back.
Turns out all I had to do was walk back into the store!
The other day I went with a friend into CurcuitCity (where I bought the laptop) and when she was given her receipt as a warrenty I instatntly asked about mine. And I'm still fully covered until May 08!!
So all my files have been burned off and into the shop it goes! YEA!
Ah I'm gonna MISS it >.<
In the meantime- I need a job.

This is an amazing Peanut Butter Cookie recipe!
I found this exact same recipe on at least 3 sites (one where it was listed as 'Mrs. Fields!' And it tastes good enough to be true!)
Once mixxed the cookie batter looks more like peanut butter mouse, but don't worry they cook up fantasic! (Completely UNhealthy, but soft and chewy and great!)
INGREDIENTS
* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
* 1 1/4 cups white sugar
* 1 cup butter, softened
* 3 eggs
* 1 cup creamy peanut butter
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, soda, and salt. Mix well with a wire whisk SET ASIDE.
3. In a large bowl, blend sugars and butter, using an electric mixer set at medium speed. Mix to form a grainy paste, scraping the sides of the bowl. Add eggs and vanilla (the batter just puffs up here!)then peanut butter. Mix at medium speed until light and fluffy.
4. Add the flour mixture and mix at low speed until just mixed.
5. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. With a wet fork gently press cookies in a crisscrossed pattern. (The batter is like PB Mouse so the fork thing really doesn't work for decoration.. I did it anyway.)
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until slightly brown along edges.
Pumpkin Cookies
These cookies are soft and plump. I'm not usually one to add glazes (the recipe calls for one) but I tried it this time and IT WAS GOOD ^ ^ I also reduced the sugar by 1/2 cup and substitued brown sugar for it- just cause I think you need to have some brown sugar!! YUM!
Ingredients:
* 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 1 cup granulated sugar
* 1/2 cup Brown sugar (dark or light)
* 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
* 1 cup LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
* 1 large egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
FOR GLAZE:
COMBINE 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons milk, 1/2 tablespoon melted butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in small bowl until smooth. (add a sprinkle or two of cinnamon to taste- alot more interesting flavor!)
Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease baking sheets.
COMBINE flour, baking soda, baking power in medium bowl. SET aside.
Beat sugars and butter in large mixer bowl until well blended. Beat in egg, vanilla and pumpkin. Add cinnamon and nutmeg. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto prepared baking sheets. (Batter will be cake-y, and cookies really won't rise so don't make your spoonfuls flat unless you want thin cookies! These are better a bit fat ^ ^)
CAN add walnuts to taste!
BAKE for 15 to 18 minutes or until edges are firm.
Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
Drizzle Glaze over cookies.

Which Yaoi Series Are You?

Your series is Fake by Sanami Matoh, the story of Ryo and Dee, two NYPD detectives, and their developing relationship. If you like a solid plot, uniquely developed characters, a good laugh, just enough angst to add tension, and mysteries/thrillers, this is your diamond in the rough. However, Sex in the City this is not. Fake is famous for it's UST - Unresolved Sexual Tension - in other words there's enough innuendo to drown in but when it comes to anything more there's some problem or distraction, again and again, until you want to throw something at the couple and yell for them to just get together already. This is the ideal for anyone who prefers storyline with a side of romance.
